Eric Ericson

Eric Ericson, a Swedish photographer and artist, became obsessed with the ancient ruins of Palmyra in Syria over 20 years ago. He made it an artistic mission to photograph the massive ruins and travelled back and forth to the Syrian desert to capture the perfect images of the ancient ruins. Then came the war. ISIS deliberately destroyed the ruins in rage against western culture. The ruins no longer exist but Eric Ericsons beautiful images are still standing as an artistic homage to this ancient culture.

"It's been almost thirty years since I first visited Palmyra. This enormous ruin city lay discarded in the desert. The infatuation and fascination were immediate. Some time later, I returned with a large format camera. With every visit, Palmyra - and Syria - became a more captivating place," says Eric Ericson.

In 2009, Ericson published a photo book titled "Palmyra" which documents the site of Palmyra in Syria. The book was a culmination of his years of work on the project, and his photographs became a window into the soul of the ancient city. His work has been exhibited globally, and he has received numerous awards for his photography, proving his commitment to using his art to raise awareness of important issues.
