Elina Brotherus

Helsinki-born artist Elina Brotherus works in both photography and moving images. At the very beginning of her career, during her art studies at Aalto University, Brotherus started experimenting with autobiographical self-portraits. An art form that she has returned to throughout her career, when not turning to art-historical approaches with Nordic sceneries.

Her multifaceted talent has earned her international recognition and awards. Since her international debut in 1997, Brotherus has been awarded, among others, Carte blanche PMU, France, in 2017, the Finnish State Prize for Photography in 2008, and the Prix Niépce in 2005.

Age: 50. Based in Helsinki, Finland and Avallon, France.
